Description

You will explore the resources and functions that allow an organisation to meet the needs of its customers. Several key questions shape module content: What are the critical trade-offs in balancing agility and standardisation in developing delivery systems? How do we synergise across an international organisation and how do performance measures balance risk in a dynamic global market?

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • understand how operational excellence can be a source of sustained competitive advantage
  • use both quantitative and qualitative tools to analyse basic operational issues and to improve process performance
  • understand the “physics” of material, work and information flows within companies
  • understand how the design and management of a firm’s processes interact to determine a firm’s cost structure and its ability to compete effectively in terms of quality, variety and responsiveness.
  • understand the enabling role of technology to achieve operational excellence.
